What We’re Looking For:
- Required Certification: Must hold a State of Alabama Fire Alarm License (or be willing to obtain it within 90 days of employment) to work with fire alarm systems. Burglar Alarm Certification is also required for installation and servicing of intrusion systems. These certifications are typically granted by the Alabama Electronic Security Board of Licensure (AESBL).
- Experience: Minimum of 2 years’ experience as a fire alarm installation technician; experience with intrusion alarms and burglary systems is a plus
- Knowledge: Familiarity with fire alarm systems, intrusion alarms, burglar alarms, glass break detectors, door strikes, and access control systems
- Skills: Comfortable pulling wire, installing panels and devices, and running low-voltage cabling in commercial buildings
- Travel Flexibility: Comfortable with extensive travel, including stays away from home for 2-3 weeks at a time (usually within an 8-hour radius of Birmingham, AL)
- Certifications: Experience with EST 4 or 3, or other fire alarm panels, is a plus
- Availability: Ability to work on-call, including day and night shifts, as needed
- Technical Ability: Able to read blueprints and site maps; proficient with fire alarm panels, CCTV, voice and data cabling, and troubleshooting cable network issues
- Physical Requirements: Ability to work at heights using boom or scissor lifts, work in confined spaces, and carry out tasks involving the use of basic telecom tools and PPE
- Reliable Transportation: Valid driver’s license with a clean record and reliable personal transportation
- Pass Background Checks: Must pass drug test and background check
Job Responsibilities:
- Installation & Maintenance: Install, troubleshoot, and maintain fire alarm and security systems, including pulling wire and installing panels, devices, and components
- Cable Management: Run low-voltage cabling, drill and install conduit, and ensure all cables are organized and comply with safety standards
- System Testing: Conduct tests to verify the functionality of installed systems and troubleshoot any issues
- Compliance: Adhere to all safety regulations, including OSHA requirements and company-specific safety protocols
- Project Support: Perform other duties as assigned, including assisting with larger projects and providing support to the project manager
