Summary

The Sanitation Supervisor is responsible for effectively implementing the cleaning and sanitation of processing equipment, utensils, and the entire plant environment. This role oversees the development and execution of the sanitation program, ensuring compliance with safety and product quality standards. The Sanitation Supervisor will continuously improve sanitation practices by analyzing performance metrics, identifying root causes, and implementing corrective actions.

Key Responsibilities

  • Sanitation Oversight: Supervise the cleaning and sanitation of equipment, surfaces, utensils, and plant environments. Provide direction, motivation, and technical support to sanitation employees to ensure tasks are completed effectively and on time.
  • Planning & Communication: Plan, engage, and communicate on sanitation-related activities, including quality, safety, health, employee relations, operations, and maintenance programs.
  • Master Sanitation Schedule: Manage and execute the master sanitation schedule by prioritizing, scheduling, and assigning tasks. Communicate with sanitation staff and stakeholders to ensure timely completion.
  • Training & Compliance: Assist in developing and executing training programs to meet job requirements. Ensure employees comply with company and regulatory requirements.
  • Performance Metrics: Measure and analyze sanitation performance metrics. Lead weekly cross-functional sanitation meetings to review findings and assign corrective actions for continuous improvement.
  • Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs): Update sanitation SOPs and verify compliance by front-line employees.
  • Personnel Management: Handle hiring, performance evaluations, and disciplinary actions for direct reports. Be prepared to complete tasks alongside employees as needed.

Supervisory Responsibilities

  • Supervise site sanitarians and provide guidance, training, and direction to ensure compliance with food safety, quality, and regulatory requirements.
  • Coach and mentor sanitarians and plant operations associates.

Work Conditions

  • Onsite presence at facilities is required on a routine basis
  • Travel may be required (up to 5%)
  • Travel primarily within the United States for facility visits or training as needed
  • Hours vary to meet plant schedules, including sanitation activities, pre-operative inspections, and shift operations
  • Operate independently with self-accountability and thought leadership

Qualifications

Required

  • At least 1 year of supervisory experience
  • Minimum 1 year of directly related work experience
  • Proficiency with email, spreadsheet, word processing, and other software applications

Desired

  • Knowledge of industry-related quality systems, inspection programs, cleaning systems, and chemicals
  • Familiarity with the sanitation process, cleaning chemistry, chemical storage, handling and dispensing systems, and sanitary design principles
  • Experience with recruiting, onboarding, and hiring processes
