Job Overview:
We are seeking an experienced Fire Alarm System Designer to join our team. In this role, you will be responsible for the design and engineering of fire alarm systems in compliance with NFPA codes and project specifications. You will collaborate with project managers, sales teams, and drafters to ensure the timely and accurate design of fire alarm systems. Strong knowledge of fire protection codes, system installation, and AutoCAD is required. The ideal candidate will have a strong work ethic, excellent communication skills, and a commitment to delivering high-quality designs.


Key Responsibilities:

  • On-Site Surveys: Conduct site visits to assess customer needs and gather necessary information for system design.
  • System Design: Develop fire alarm system designs in accordance with NFPA codes and project specifications.
  • AutoCAD Drafting: Create floor plans, riser diagrams, schematics, system power calculations, and control panel layouts using AutoCAD or other relevant software.
  • Design Review: Ensure all designs meet company quality standards and code requirements before submission for approval.
  • Collaboration: Work closely with project managers, sales teams, and drafters to ensure efficient and accurate designs.
  • Quality Assurance: Assist in developing and implementing a quality service program to improve efficiency and proficiency in design and engineering.
  • Project Visits: Visit ongoing projects as needed to ensure designs are implemented correctly and effectively.
  • Customer Interface: Provide support and feedback to sales and project managers to assist in organizing, planning, and prioritizing work.

Requirements:

  • Education: High school diploma or equivalent required. Technical degree or equivalent from a college or trade school is a plus.
  • Experience: 3-5 years of experience designing commercial fire detection systems. NICET Level II certification in Fire Alarm is required (NICET Level III certification is a plus).
  • Technical Skills:
    • Strong working knowledge of fire protection codes and operations.
    • Proficient in AutoCAD and other software programs required for system design.
    • Familiarity with NFPA 70, NFPA 72, NFPA 101, and the International Fire Code (IFC).
    • Ability to read, interpret, and apply fire alarm project drawings and specifications.
  • Communication Skills: Strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Leadership and Time Management: Ability to work independently, manage time effectively, and coordinate tasks with others.
  • Travel: Must be able to travel by air and/or ground overnight as necessary.
  • Certifications: Valid driver’s license required.
  • Additional Skills:
    • Strong interpersonal skills, including customer service, coordination, and persuasion.
    • Technical knowledge of fire suppression and security system design is a plus.
    • Commitment to continuous improvement and professional development.
